From 2019 until 2022 excavations were undertaken at Millhill of Wandel. This came about as a follow-up to observations taken from Wandel Mill and a subsequent survey. No records had been published of this site other than some aerial photographs on Canmore Wandel Burn | Canmore
A complex of banks were surveyed and the subsequent excavation revealed the series of buildings outlined in this excavation Report.
As an adjunct to the Millhill of Wandel excavation a complex of post-medieval farmscape features was surveyed at Hartside. Examination of aerial photographs and lidar images revealed unrecorded human landscapes which, on being field-walked, emerged as post-medieval banks, enclosures and settlements contemporary with Millhill of Wandel. Surveys were subsequently undertaken and are detailed in this survey report.
